I have bronchitis....at least the kids are super cute.

Antibiotics are the best invention ever!

They really are. I don't like the kids to be on them too frequently, but when needed, they are a wonder drug. Gabe has been sick for 2 1/2 weeks now. I think his sinuses just can't clear out all the crud on their own and it just keeps coming back. Alyssa has an ear infection again. they're both finally on the mend thanks to this wonderful medicine. It's hard on me when the kids are sick. It's a combination of exhaustion, worry, rearranging work schedules, and lots of hand sanitizer. I can't wait till spring.
In other news, we re-did Gabe's room. He now has a big boy bed. He's always loved baseball so we made him a Reds baseball room. We were a little nervous about what he would do if he woke up in the middle of the night. At 4 AM on Sunday, I heard the gate at the top of the stairs rattle. I then heard a little voice say "where did mommy and daddy go?". In walks gabe into our room. We were both so excited. Many parents may find this upsetting, but to us it is a huge deal. Gabe woke up, shimmied to the edge of his bed, stood up on his own, and walked out of his room down the hall and into our bedroom in the dark. It's very exciting. Luckily, last night he slept the whole night and came in our room at 6:45 AM...such a big boy.

Is it spring yet?

Seems like the kids are sick just about every other week. This weekend gabe developed a fever and cough. Alyssa also has had a runny nose for 10 days now. I can't wait till spring. It's been very cold around here lately. Gabe refuses to wear a hat. He always takes it off and throws it. Luckily he got this cute little doggie hat for christmas. He loves it. Alyssa is talking more and more. It's exciting to actually know what she's saying. We are in the process of redoing Gabe's room. It's going to be a baseball theme. I'll post pictures soon. Stay warm everyone.

Back to normal

We've had a nice laid back week of normal. Gabe is eating great and has his energy back. He is still Not drinking as much as he used to, but I think that will come. Here are some pics from the week.

Perspective

Gabe was transferred out of Icu today and he is now on a respiratory unit. Unfortunately because he is in isolation for RSV, visitors are still limited. He is on 1L of regular oxygen now. He needs to be off oxygen for 4 hours to go home. He is wheezing a little and breath sound are slightly diminished, so they gave him a breathing treatment and we're trying to get him out of bed a little...at least as much as we can with him tethered to leads. I think he's done with this place. He keeps telling me "ready to go home". Whenever anyone with scrubs on walks in the door he yells "all done".
It's hard being here over Christmas. At least the kids don't totally get it yet. I think Christmas on the 26 th will be just fine. Justin stayed overnight with Gabe. He was woken up at 5am by an adult crying hard in the next room.  We are lucky compared to many families here. We were talking yesterday that at least it's not heart failure.  At least it's just a bad bug and we know he'll be okay..perspective I guess. We are very blessed.

Update from ICU

Gabe is doing a little better today. He is still on high flow oxygen, but they are slowly weening it down. The nasal swab they did yesterday confirms that he has RSV. He ate a little bit today. Still refusing to drink. Slight fever, but nothing major. It will just take some time and oxygen support to get him over this. Got some smiles from him.
